Hamilton led at turn one before Red Bull's David Coulthard collided with another car. Hamilton dropped to sixth by the end of the first lap and then spun after colliding with Massa on lap two, forcing him to enter the pits. Eventually, the 23-year-old McLaren driver ended in 12th.

Meanwhile, Massa set the fastest time on lap 50 with a mark of one minute, 18.963 seconds. But the Brazilian then made contact with Toro Rosso's Sebastien Bourdais on lap 51, causing him to spin before recovering.

Massa finished in seventh place. It meant Massa picked up two points for the race and is now just five points behind Hamilton with two races remaining.
