BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Gulnara Galkina-Samitova won the gold medal of the women's 3000 meters steeplechase and set a new world record at the Beijing Olympic Games here on Sunday.

The 30-year-old clocked eight minutes 58.81 seconds, breaking the previous record of 9:01.59 set by herself in July 4, 2004.
