BRASILIA, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- After his team lost yet again on Wednesday night, Cuca, the head coach of the Santos announced on Thursday that he will no longer be with the team.

Due to the unexpected announcement, the team's administration declared that Marcio Fernandes, already part of the coaching staff, will assume the role of head coach until a replacement is found.

On Wednesday night, the Santos soccer team was defeated by a score of 3-2 by Atletico-MG. During the press conference after the game early Thursday morning, Cuca made his announcement that he will no longer be with the club.

"I wanted to stay with the team until the end of this year's championship. However, it is not going to be possible. It is not due to a lack of desire. It is due to a string of bad luck," said the coach.

Cuca came to Santos in hopes of leading the Santos team to victory in the Brasileiro Championship. The coach left his previous team of Botafogo to join Santos earlier this year.

However, with only 17 points in this year's tournament, the Santos team has not had the expected success and finds itself in danger of being lowered to the second division if they do not turn their season around.

For this reason, Cuca decided to leave on his own before being fired for the team's poor output.
