Special Report:   2008 Beijing Olympic Games

Day 3 of the Olympic Torch Relay in Beijing has wrapped up in the capital. The event began early this morning at the Peking Man Site at Zhoukoudian - about 48 kilometers from downtown. The area was inhabited by early hominids over 600,000 years ago. Peking Man Site was discovered in 1921. And since then, the site has yielded nearly 200 pieces of Peking Man fossils, thousands of stone artifacts and several layers of ash -- evidence of the use of fire. More than 100 fossilized animal specimans have also been unearthed. The torch was then paraded through Fangshan, Mentougou, Daxing and the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area and Haidian district. The last stop was the Beijing 2008 Olympic Youth Camp, located at the city's No. 101 Middle School. The torch now heads to the Bird's Nest for Friday evening's opening ceremony. Friday's Olympic Torch Relay route spanned about 8 kilometers. 140 torch bearers took part in the final leg of the Olympic Torch Relay.
