With the southern parts of China suffering unprecedented levels of snow recently, athletes have been doing their bit to lift the spirits of those stranded by the calamitous weather conditions. One of those was Olympic hurdling Champion Liu Xiang.

Liu Xiang, Olympic Champion said "The spring festival is coming soon. A lot of people are eager to go back home for the holidays. I hope the whole of society can pay more attention to these people. Let's work hand in hand to overcome the difficulties."

Sun Haiping, Liu Xiang's coach said "This is what we should do for the . And I hope all people can show their love for them. The disaster has brought many difficulties for people's lives. Liu Xiang and I just want to show our support."

Meanwhile, boxing world champion Zou Shiming took time out from preparations for this year's Olympic Games to make his own contribution, donating 20,000 yuan to his hometown Guizhou.
