Special Report:   2008 Olympics Countdown

More than eighty delegations attending the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games have arrived in Shanghai. Shanghai authorities say all the preparations are done, and the reception is underway.

Assisted by volunteers, 210 athletes and coaches arriving at Pudong Airport have cleared the special passage designed for them and have completed the registration process.

Their luggage is being transferred to hotels by another team of volunteers.Although the British team is the largest, the volunteer service has satisfied the members.

To provide convenience for the athletes the 140 hotels where they are staying have set up clinics and an administration center. To help athletes, their hotel door has members' photos and cartoons showing the sport they will participate in. Paper cups have replaced all glass cups and electric plugs are protected, making the athletes feel at home.

The Special Olympic Games are one of the major international sporting events for athletes with intellectual disabilities. This is the first Games to be held in Asia.
