With just over a year to go until the Beijing Olympics, China's preparations are well underway. The Beijing municipal government has launched an English language campaign so that citizens and people in the service industry can give their international visitors a warmer welcome next year.

The Organizing Committee of Beijing Speaks Foreign Languages Program and the Beijing Olympic Games Training Work Coordination Group Office are joint organizers. This year's Beijing Foreign Languages Week began on May 21st. As many as 50,000 people from all walks of life took part in this gala.

This taxi driver says how much learning to speak English has helped in his working life.

Dong Shicheng, Beijing taxi driver, said, "I work as a taxi driver for 10 years."

A well-known policeman, Liu Wenli, even showed the audience an English talk show.
