Special Report: 2008 Beijing Olympics
3-hundred kilometers from Beijing, Qinhuangdao will host the football preliminaries during the 2008 Olympic Games.
Situated within the temperate monsoon zone and adjacent to the Bohai Sea, Qinhuangdao enjoys fresh cool air and comfortable temperatures. It has always been considered an ideal domestic summer resort.
The city has a long history dating back to China's first feudal emperor Qinshihuang's era. One of his best known achievements is that he started the building of the Great Wall. The city's Shanhaiguan Fortress is believed to be the starting point of China's Great Wall.
Qinhuangdao has developed into a modern city with ancient charm. Tourism is a key industry with historical sites, seaside landscapes and natural resorts all on offer.
Since China's opening up policy, the city has been promoted as a key harbor along its coastline.
