Special Report:   HK 10 Years

Jack Maisano has lived in Hong Kong for 25 years. Since 2005 he has served as President of the American Chamber of Commerce.

Maisano says he has two homes – Hong Kong and the United States. The American Chamber of Commerce is one of the largest American chambers outside the US and the largest international chamber in Hong Kong.

The organization facilitates business between the US, Hong Kong and China’s mainland and strengthens Hong Kong’s status as an international business center.

In the 1980s Hong Kong’s economy transitioned from an export-based to a serviced based economy, and Maisano says the city’s economy is thriving.

"The economic environment here is more international, and we have a relatively small domestic market in HK. It’s relatively mature," says Jack Maisano.

Currently, the United States is the second biggest trading partner with Hong Kong. The American Chamber of Commerce here has 2000 members from more than a thousand companies. US companies have 300 regional headquarters in Hong Kong - more than any other country.
