Intro:

Earlier this week, Beijing and Washington held their first ever Strategic & Economic Dialogue to discuss issues of mutual interests and concern. Among them, how to work together against trade protectionism amid financial crisis. Recently, the U.S. International Trade Commission, or ITC, ruled Chinese automotive tire imports are costing American jobs by forcing U.S. manufactures to exit the industry, an allegation by the United Steel Workers Union.

As a result, the ITC recommended strong tariffs on the Chinese tire imports. Now, the case is on the table of the U.S. President who has to make a decision by mid-September. Many regard this case as an important case study testing the Obama Administration's determination against trade protectionism.
