Intro:

Following the July 5th rioting in Urumqi, capital city of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in Northwestern China, many observers say that the ethnic policies by the central authorities have been a bit too favorable for the minorities including the Uygurs.

The Uygurs also say that there is a margin for improvement. But the spokesperson of the country’s ethnic affairs committee in Beijing has delivered a rosy picture about the ethnic policies which they say have laid a solid foundation for ethnic unity and economic prosperity in those autonomous regions. Meanwhile, Muslims around the world are following the development in Xinjiang as well.
