Intro:

Since the late 1970s and the early 1980s, especially since the end of the Cold War, China has made important adjustments in its foreign policy. It was evolving from one of an inward-looking, reactive and system-challenging nature to one of an increasingly outward-looking, pro-active and system-identifying character.

On the other hand, China continued persisting its policies of reform and opening to the outside world. Market forces started to play an increasingly important role while closely integrated with other countries.
