Famed performers of Chinese cross-talk and short sketches brought a night of levity to the capital, Monday. The evening at Beijing's Cultural Palace of Nationalities featured another in a series of cultural events celebrating the 30th anniversary of China's reform and opening up. These veterans of the stage also are witnesses to history.
Jiang Kun, cross talk artist, said, "We are among many witnesses to China's reform and opening up. We have recorded these changes in our performances and sketches. The past 30 years, have provided much inspiration - simply from observing the daily lives of ordinary people."
As the older generation of brings back nostalgic memories through laughter, there is a new generation of performers that brings a fresh new light that looks to the future.
