A chorus opened the gala. The audience recalled the many indelible moments of the relief work as top Chinese government officials, PLA soldiers and the general public did their utmost to cope with the scale of the tragedy and help the survivors.

A short drama called the "Poem Left in the Ruins" and an acrobatic performance portrayed the bravery of the rescuers.

Local residents also expressed their appreciation to the government and all those who offered a helping hand. A Qiang Ethnic song and a painting by a Tibetan girl conveyed their gratitude.

The gala highlighted the spirit of solidarity of the Chinese people. More than 300 artists from various PLA art groups performed during the evening.
