Senior leaders and decision-makers in China have gathered in Beijing to determine economic work for 2009. The three-day Central Economic Work Conference, held at the end of every year, comes this year amid efforts to offset the adverse impact of the global financial crisis and maintain stable and sound economic growth.

Participants are expected to work out specific strategies to tackle anticipated problems in China next year. Among the challenges, the risk of economic slowdown, difficulties in small and medium-sized enterprises and the transformation of economic growth patterns.
