Special Report:   2008 Beijing Olympics

Beijing is making efforts to ensure the safety of food during the Olympics in 2008. All work related to food safety from the construction of a supervisory system to emergency management is under scrutiny.

The city's food security officials said the food safety for the 2008 Olympics was "fully guaranteed". Beijing has already drawn up technical standards covering the packaging, storage and transportation of food to be consumed during the Olympics. The city has also set up a food tracking and monitoring system for the games. The information will be incorporated into a database, which enables supervisors to be fully aware of all the procedures and trace the sources in the event of any incidents.

In 2005, Beijing set up an expert panel on food security for the 2008 Olympics. The panel includes seven Chinese and eight foreign experts.
