Any sporting event has the potential to produce unexpected drama. I guess that’s part of the appeal that keeps us watching. But often the real drama takes place behind the scenes. Take for example, the World Gymnastics Championships in 2006, when the last-minute withdrawal because of nerves of one of the Chinese women, left the stage open to an untried 16-year-old.
