3G signal accessible on Beijing Subway Line 4

In September this year when subway Line 4 opens, passengers will not only be able to use mobile phones, but will also be able to enjoy the latest 3G mobile services.

Beijing MTR Corporation, the operator of Line 4, stated on July 5 that they had recently reached the agreement with China Mobile (Beijing Branch) about signal on Line 4. Starting on the opening day of Line 4, China Mobile customers will be able to enjoy mobile phone signal in the public areas and tunnels on Line 4, including TD-SCDMA customers. This will be the first time that domestic 3G of TD-SCDMA services cover a subway line.

Sources from Beijing MTR Corporation said that the company emphasized and actively promoted the use of mobile phone signal on Line 4 since the start of its construction. Currently, the company and China Mobile (Beijing Branch) are cooperating to provide more mobile phone services to passengers on Line 4.

Line 10 and the Olympic branch Line 8 opened on July 19, 2008. However because the operator did not reach a consensus with mobile phone service providers including China Mobile and China Unicom, there had been no mobile phone signal on these two subway lines and trains for over 20 days until August 11. Since then, Line 10 and the Olympic branch line have realized full mobile phone signal coverage.

Currently, mobile phone signal coverage is fully accessible to eight Beijing subway lines, including five underground lines. Of these, Line 5 realized full signal coverage when it opened in 2007.
