To ease the drought, since Monday people in the Bangbu area of east China's Anhui province have been pumping water from the Huai River to irrigate farmland. Various types of water distribution equipment ensures there are efficient water resources.

New technology and mobile irrigation equipment is being used on over one million hectares of farmland. Cloud seeding to produce artificial rain is also planned, so all drought affected farmland will be treated before next Sunday.

Officials say the air conditions on Saturday are suitable for creating artificial rain. Authorities say they will spare no effort to ease drought conditions.

Rainfall has not seen in northwest China's Shaanxi province for over 2 months and about 60 percent of crops have been affected. The drought is spreading across the province and local governments are actively seeking water resources and methods for irrigating farmland.

Weather forecasts say rainfall is likely to be seen across the province this weekend.
