A batch of 200,000 tickets, each sold at 4 yuan (US$0.57) went on sale Sunday at all subway stations in Beijing. The price included the regular 2-yuan subway fee and an extra 2-yuan donation.

Many passengers lined up to buy the paper tickets, although they could access the subway faster with their smart cards.

The collected sum of 400,000 yuan (US$57,388) will be donated to the Red Cross Society of China.
