17th CPC Central Committee holds first plenary session

The new leadership of the Communist Party of China has been elected at the first plenary session of its 17th Central Committee. The meeting wrapped up in Beijing Monday with a communique.
The first plenary session of the 17th CPC Central Committee was held in Beijing on October 22nd.
All 204 members of the Central Committee and 166 alternate members of Central Committee were present. The Central Committee for Discipline Inspection also attended the meeting.

Hu Jintao presided and delivered an important speech.
The Plenary session elected the Party's new Central Committee Politburo, and the Politburo Standing Committee,and the general secretary of the central committee. It also has chosen the members of the secretariat of Central Committee, decided the members of the Central Military Commission. It approved secretary and deputy secretaries and standing members of the central committee for discipline inspection.
