Fire drill held in Shanghai for Special Olympics

Firefighters in Shanghai have tested their ability to deal with emergencies during the Special Olympics. They held a fire drill in the International Gymnastic Center on Wednesday.

The dramatic simulation started at 10 p.m., with the east side of the stands catching fire from overheated electronic appliances. The fire spread rapidly through the stands, trapping over 100 staff and spectators.

The fire officers organized the evacuation of more than 90 people. A tower ladder was used to rescue the others. The fire was quickly brought under control by nine fire engines and more than 100 firefighters.
