Premier Wen appoints Donald Tsang HK chief executive

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has appointed Donald Tsang the chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

His term of office will start on July 1st. Tsang was elected by the broadly representative Election Committee in accordance with the Basic Law of the HKSAR. He beat Alan Leon, the only other candidate, 649 to 123 in the March 25th election.

Premier Wen said Tsang's victory meets the Hong Kong people's expectations and reflects their trust in him.
