China, India discuss border disputes

China and India have held high-level negotiations to resolve border disputes. The 13th China-India Boundary Talks in New Delhi were led by China's State Councillor Dai Bingguo and Indian national security adviser M.K. Narayanan.

This round of talks was held with commitments from both sides to smooth relations.

China and India share a long border of more than 4000 kilometers with about 125-thousand square kilometers of disputed territory. Both sides acknowledged that the disputed land has led to conflicts over the past half century.

During the talks, the two sides pledged to work together to maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas.They agreed to forge ahead with the framework negotiations in line with established principles, so as to seek a fair and reasonable solution acceptable to both countries.

The Chinese delegation noted that both countries need to promote the relationship with a strategic perspective and continue to uphold the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.

China said conducting mutual beneficial cooperation serves the interests of the peoples from the two countries.

There is no better option than to live in peace.

That is the belief of the Chinese delegation, who said it stands committed to working with India to improve bilateral ties.

China said both sides should build strategic mutual trust and expand areas of bilateral cooperation...such as enhancing people-to-people exchanges and cultural interactions.
