About 500 people from the mainland and Taiwan will attend the meetings. Delegates include officials from the Kuomintang and the Communist Party and cultural, educational and trade representatives.
The forum in previous years has focused on economics and trade, but this time it will deal more with cultural and educational cooperation.
Wang Yi, Director of CPC Central Committee Taiwan Work Office, said, The peaceful development of cross-Straits relations not only needs economic drive, but cultural impetus as well."
Wu Poh-hsiung, Kuomintang Chairman, said, "I think in addition to economic links between the mainland and Taiwan, shared ancestry and culture are the main force in maintaining the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations."
