Special Report: Iran presidential election 09 |
Iran's election oversight body has declared the country's disputed presidential vote to be valid after a partial recount.
The body's decision rejects opposition allegations of fraud and further silences calls for a new vote.
The Guardian Council presented the conclusion in a letter to the interior minister.
That followed the recounting of what was described as a randomly selected 10 percent of the almost 40 million ballots cast on June 12th.
Opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi had claimed that he -- not incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad -- was the rightful winner.
He had also called for a new election something the government repeatedly said it would not do.
