Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki blamed a recent series of bombings on remnants of al-Qaida in Iraq, and said they were aimed at triggering violence between Shiites and Sunnis.

Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said, "The insurgents want to sweep delight from the Iraqi people's hearts. They have disclosed their real intentions. But this will not bend our determination and will for what we have agreed upon, which is to return security responsibilities to our military and police forces."
