The expansion of international criminal networks involved in drug trafficking is forcing countries to strengthen cross-border cooperation. China held events on its southern border to mark Anti-Drug Day and the achievements of cross-border cooperation so far.

Police and soldiers from China and Vietnam destroy the drugs that might have destroyed the lives of thousands.

More than 730 kilograms of drugs were burned in Dongxing city to mark the progress of the two countries' joint efforts against drug trafficking. Among them are traditional drugs like heroin, and the new ones like ice.

China and Vietnam border the Golden Triangle, a drug production base. And some drugs produced in other regions, such as Afghanistan, also reach China through this route. This makes Guangxi's southern border a frontline in the war against drugs.

Chinese and Vietnamese police have established and maintain contact with one another to block the smugglers routes. Officers from both sides hold regular meetings, and organize joint actions to stop the flow of drugs.

Elsewhere, police from Myanmar transfer four drug suspects and the evidence against them to Chinese police at the Daluo border point in Yunnan province. The four, suspected of trafficking one kilogram of heroin and ice will be questioned by police in China. As Yunnan border police expand cooperation with their Myanmar counterparts, hand-overs like this are becoming more frequent.

Despite the progress, China still faces challenges from increasing drug crimes in neighboring countries. Criminals are seeking new ways to transport drugs and weapons are used to protect their activities.

Chinese police have strengthened border checks with hi-tech equipment, hoping to keep drug smugglers at bay.
