Special Report: Iran presidential election 09 |

Iran's supreme leader says that the authorities will not back down concerning the results of the disputed presidential election.

And the Iranian satellite channel Press TV reports that the Guardian Council has rejected any idea of annulling the June 12th election.

In an address to lawmakers on Wednesday, the Supreme leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made it clear that neither Iran's system, nor the people would give in to pressures at any price.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, said, "On the current situation, I was insisting and will insist on implementation of the law. That means, we will not go one step beyond the law. I will not take a single step beyond the law. Our country's law. The Islamic Republic's law."

Khamenei said if the legal frameworks are breached today, then no future election can be guaranteed.

He said if there is any doubt, it should be pursued through legal channels.
