Special Report: Iran presidential election 09 |
Tensions continue to rise between Britain and Iran with Iran expelling two British diplomats, and Britain retaliating by ordering two Iranian diplomats to leave the country.
Iran expelled two British diplomats, accusing them of "meddling and spying".
And a group of Iranian students protested outside the British embassy in Tehran, saying Britain has interfered with their country's internal affairs.
Another group of students held a news conference outside what was once the US embassy and called on the government to cut off ties with Britain.
Britain says Iran's decision is unjustified and its accusations groundless.
Gordon Brown, British Prime Minister, said, "In response to that action, we informed the Iranian ambassador earlier today that we would expel two Iranian diplomats from their embassy in London. I am disappointed that Iran has placed us in this position but we will continue to seek good relations with Iran."
