Before arriving in Croatia, President Hu Jintao wrapped up his state visit to Slovakia, where he met several senior officials to talk about bilateral ties. Their priority for the future will be economic cooperation.

Hu Jintao met with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Friday. They exchanged views on strengthening bilateral relations.

Hu Jintao said China viewed Slovakia as a trustworthy friend and partner in the European Union. He said China is ready to take the 60th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties as an opportunity to boost cooperation.

He noted that enhancing economic and trade cooperation should be a priority to help tackle the current financial crisis.

President Hu Jintao called for more mutual investments and welcomed Slovakian enterprises to come to invest in China. He proposed both sides explore different forms of cooperation in fields such as infrastructure construction, new energy, agriculture, forestry, and environmental protection.

He also called for strengthened coordination in macroeconomic policies between the two countries.

Fico hailed Hu Jintao's visit, and said it was an indication that China gives priority to developing its relations with Slovakia and the EU.
