On his arrival, Hu Jintao spoke highly of the existing bilateral ties and vowed to work with the Slovak side to deepen cooperation. The President later held talks with his Slovak counterpart Ivan Gasparovic. They agreed to consolidate their traditional friendship and strengthen cooperation.

President Hu also made a four-point proposal, which concerned mutual political trust, economic links, cultural exchanges and increased cooperation.
