One of the newly confirmed cases involves a 25-year-old Chinese man in east China's Fujian Province. He flew from New York to Fuzhou, capital of Fujian province, via Beijing on Monday. He developed a fever and went to hospital on Tuesday. Tests by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday confirmed he has the virus. He is now in stable condition.

The Shanghai patient is a 26-year-old Chinese female. She arrived in Shanghai last Saturday on American Airlines flight AA289 from Chicago, and began coughing early Monday. Her temperature rose to 38 degrees Celsius early Tuesday. Tests by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed she has the virus. Health officials say she is now in stable condition.

The two new suspected cases have been reported in Shanghai and south China's Guangdong Province.

The Shanghai patient is a 22-year-old man who studies in Australia. He was among the people quarantined after having close contact with Shanghai's first confirmed case.
