"In my soul, in my heart, I'm a journalist." These are the words of Lisa Ling, host of National Geographic Ultimate Explorer.
Lisa Ling made her fame on the popular ABC daytime morning talk and entertainment program, The View. She was one of the co-hosts, sitting alongside Barbara Walters, Meredith Vieira, Star Jones and Joy Behar, representing women in their "twenty-something". Lisa said she learned to be more open to talk in public, and learned a lot from the veteran hosts, especially Barbara Walters. However, after a few years, she decided to leave The View to join National Geographic Ultimate Explorer in Dec 2002 because of her passion for discovering news all over the world.
Lisa Ling's passion for news might be due to her earlier media experience before The View. She started her career at the youthful age of 16. By the time she was 18, she had moved on to become one of the youngest reporters for Channel One News, the network seen in middle and high schools across the USA. By the age of 25, she was Channel One's senior war correspondent, visiting violent hotspots around the globe.
Now Lisa Ling is the host of the award-winning documentary series Ultimate
Explorer, on the National Geographic Channel. This Chinese American chose
China's globalization to be her first topic on Explorer and used Yao Ming, the popular NBA player as the clue. Lisa said she would like to report more about China if she was given more opportunity.
The Committee of 100, an organization composed of elite Chinese Americans, accepted Lisa Ling as one of its members in 2004. She is now making an effort to improve communication between China and America through her media work.
