It is not true that people stop pursuing dreams because they grow old, they grow old because they stop pursuing dreams."

- Gabriel Garcia Marquez

People are never too young, nor too old to travel.

I started to see the world even before I was born. In my mother’s womb, I travelled to London to see her sister, my aunt. My second trip was again to the gloomy city at the tender age of 2. And to the dismay of my fellow passengers, I screamed for my dad throughout the entire 13-hour flight. While I don’t remember either incident, every time I hear the story, I’m pretty sure that’s where my love of travel began. My superstitious mother however, believes that it was my fate to be nomadic from the freckle-like mole I have at the bottom of my right foot.

I was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia but every time someone asks me “where are you from?” or “where’s home?” I have to take a deep breath before I give them my answer. I grew up in Kuala Lumpur, Borneo, Hong Kong and Melbourne, and because I consider them all home, it takes a while to explain but home(s) is always worth mentioning.

If it’s not already messy enough, it doesn’t help that most people think I sound American but if you listen carefully you may just catch a little Malaysian or Australian twang. I blame that on the international schools. And did I mention that I have Tahitian and indigenous Iban blood? It might be a long story to tell but I am proud to be ‘global trash’ –the people who belong nowhere and everywhere.

If you moved around so much, how did you keep a job?

Luckily for me, my work experiences have allowed me to live and breathe different cities at extended lengths, while pursuing different media mediums. CNN Hong Kong ignited my love for television, The Herald Sun, Australia expanded my knowledge of online and print media, TBWA-ISC, Malaysia, a view into the world of selling consumerism and my part time career in modeling and acting in Melbourne gave me camera experience.

I’ve come a long way from being the screaming two year-old but if you were on that flight 23 years ago, thanks for being so patient! You played a huge part in making me the keen traveler and Travelogue host I am today.
