Russian street

Dalian was a small fishing village until its strategic location caught the eye of Russia and Japan at the end of the 19th century. Most of Dalian's characteristic buildings are from that period.

Today former Soviet Union member countries are close trading partners with Dalian and the majority of foreign tourists today are Russian speaking. A miniature of a Russian market is located here. The market devotes itself to fans of former Soviet Union souvenirs, for any tourists looking for eye candy, it is also worthy of a stroll.

Japan street

During the late 1800's till the end of the Second World War, Japan occupied Dalian for more near a half century. Japanese-era villas and apartment buildings in varying stages still occupy a substantial part of the old town,

For Dalian's younger generation, Japan is the center of comic books and high fashion to look up to, for the older generation living here, Japan is a part of long- gone memory that no one is keen in willingly recall.

Japanese food

In every day life, Japanese influence is only most obvious in locals taste for Japanese cuisine, which is available in abundance here in Dalian. So if you like Japanese cuisine, this is the place for some real gastronomic experience.

It might sound surprising to you; Dalian is the most important supplier for Japanese fishing market today. Most fresh seafood selling in Japan's morning market at 5 am are all shipped from Dalian at 3am.

More lavishly presented Japanese food you have to find in Japan, but for really fresh and reasonably priced Japanese food, Dalian is the place.
