The 2009 BMX World Cup season kicked off in Copenhagen, Denmark on Saturday. 2008 World Champion Shanaze Reade won the opening women's event, while Ivo Van der Putten was the surprise men's winner.
The UCI BMX Supercross kicked off a new season in style on Saturday. More than 120 riders competed at Copenhagen's revamped and impressive track.
Shanaze Reade, 2008 World Champion, said, "It's a fantastic venue and it's a great track. It's different, it's technical, it's a lot more challenging for female athletes and it's something that I really really enjoyed and it's one of the best practice laps or practise sessions that I've done in a long time."
Shanaze Reade stormed through the heats to qualify for the final. And, she led from start to finish, to get her 2009 season off to the best possible start.
The men's field was almost 100 strong, including Olympic heroes and some young aggressive riders.
