In extreme cycling action, Englishman Steve Peat recorded his 16th UCI Mountain Bike World Cup downhill victory at La Bresse, France. He also matched the all-time record of French rider Nicolas Vouilloz and took the lead in the World Cup standings.

Peat's win dropped his opponents down through the standings. The man from Sheffield was went from 17th fastest through the speedtrap to 2nd by the first intermediate timer. By the second intermediate station he was more than a second in front. And, at the finish line Peat was a full 1.27 seconds ahead of Sam Hill to register the win. Peat holds a 25-point lead over Michael Hannah at 415 points.

In the women's race, Sabrina Jonnier set the fastest splits at both the first and second intermediate stations, before recording the only sub 2-minute-30-second time of the day. Tracy Moseley finished over five seconds behind Jonnier. In the standings, Moseley leads with 460 points, Jonnier is 68 points back.
