After weeks of rumors and denial, Gao Hongbo
was finally named as the head coach of China's
football team on Monday.

Gao was selected for the national team in 1991 and retired after 7 years to be a coach. The 43 year old led Changchun Yatai to the Chinese Super League title in 2007. But he was dimissed by Changchun last year as the club struggled to repeat their form of the previous season.

Gao's main objective will be securing qualification for the 2011 Asian Cup. The national team has been without a long-term coach at the helm since Vladamir Petrovic was released in June after China's early exit from qualification for the 2010 World Cup.

Gao Hongbo, China head coach, said, "First we should set up a system of rules and regulations. And communication comes in second place. Everyone of us should sit down and have sincere communication so that we can get to know each other's ideas."
