Scotland's John Higgins surged into an 11-5 lead over Englishman Shaun Murphy in the Snooker World Championship final on Sunday.

The 33-year-old was in commanding form in the penultimate session, which started with the scores level at 4-4. A break of 57 put him 5-4 up. Murphy then capitalized with a run of 52 to level the match, but it turned out to be his only success of the night.

Higgins put in a break of 95 to establish a two frame advantage. The former champion continued his scoring spree, creating his highest break of the match, a 128, and followed that with a 51 to extend his lead.

Higgins then finish the session with another 128 to take a firm grip on the match.
