Liu Xiang, the Chinese hurdler is hoping to return to the track this year, but whether the former world champion will return to his best form still remains uncertain.

Four months after his tendon surgery in the United States, Liu Xiang is now in his hometown Shanghai for regular training, with the focus on physical strength and recovery.

Chen Shiyi, Liu Xiang's Doctor, said, "Liu Xiang can't do strong and intense training now. He still needs time. The recovery of a tendon usually needs five to six months."

The recovery training isn't easy for the injured former world record holder. But the 25 year old is still looking forward to his return to the track.

Liu Xiang said, "I have always had a belief in myself. I always have confidence and will never give up. I think I can still go back to the track and put in a performance."

At the same time, Liu Xiang has also received encouragement from all walks of life.

Guo Jinlong, Beijing Mayor, said, "I'm full of confidence, and I hope Liu's confident too. I hope he can overcome his injury and return soon."

Liu Xiang will make his comeback between August and October in either the world championships in Berlin, the Shanghai Golden GP or National Games.

Liu Xiang said, "To me, the National Games will be the most important this year. I competed in the games when I was 18 years old, and this year will be the third one for me. I don't want to miss it."
