Leon Lott, Richland County Sheriff, US, said, "Having thoroughly investigated this matter, we do not believe we have enough evidence to prosecute anyone that was present at the November party. Michael Phelps and I agree that something positive needs to come from this incident and that is a message of not using drugs."

Michael Phelps, Olympic Champion Swimmer, said, "I'm happy to have this thing at rest a little bit. I'm glad this matter is put to rest. This is something that I need to learn from and will learn from.... For me, it's about trying to get a message to kids. I know a lot of people make mistakes, and the best thing to do is change things."
