South African "Blade Runner" Oscar Pistorius began his bid for a sprint triple by winning the men's 100-meter T-44.

Bird's Nest, in Beijing, China, Sept. 9, 2008. Pistorius claimed 
the title of the event with a time of 11.17 seconds.

The double amputee track sensation broke the Games record in his 100m heat, but didn't get off to a good start in the final. But Pistorius managed to catch up, clocking a time of 11.17 seconds for his first gold medal in Beijing. The 21-year-old holds the world marks in his category for the 100m, 200m and 400m.
