Born in 1979 in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, Yang lost his sight when he was still a baby. His family hoped he would become a masseur, since blind masseurs are very popular among customers.

But Yang was determined to realize his musical dream, and he eventually claimed the championship of the 2007 season of "Star Boulevard," a popular talent show on China Central Television.

As a multi-talented musician, Yang has become a role model for blind children, with whom he is glad to share his stories.

Days before carrying the torch, Yang visited a school for blind children in Nanjing, where he encouraged students to never give up. He also invited 500 students to his solo concert in the city.
