The three shooters were tied after the 21st shot when Cainero missed the target and gave the other two shooters a chance to catch up. All three hit their last four targets to force a shoot-off.
Both Brinker and Rhode missed their second shoot-off target, so the gold went to Cainero who successfully hit both targets. Rhode, who converted to Skeet after winning two Double Trap gold medals at Atlanta 1996 and Athens 2004, hit her next two targets to win the silver medal. The bronze medal was left to the German shooter.
Before the medal shoot-off, a two-way shoot-off had already settled the fourth and fifth places. Nathalie Larsson of Sweden and Sutiya Jiewchaloemmit of Thailand, who drew on 92 hits after the completion of the final, were placed fourth and fifth after Jiewchaloemmit lost the shoot-off.
Wei Ning of China, silver medalist at Athens 2004 finished last with 91 hits.
