A director in charge of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony says the secret behind the Olympic cauldron-lighting on Friday evening is still well kept.
The vice director of the ceremony, Chen Weiya, said on Tuesday that the lighting process will be carried out in a way that differs from all predictions, including the manner exposed by SBS, the South Korean television company, Xiandai Jinbao newspaper reports.
Footage released by SBS after a ceremony rehearsal on July 30 implies that the cauldron could be ignited by a flame flying out of the mouth of a phoenix sculpture.
The scheme was devised by a group of director, without regard to public opinion, Chen says.
The games organizers have adopted comprehensive measures to avoid leaks pertaining to the August 8 ceremony, especially in regards to the cauldron lighting.
The lighting process was not practiced in any of the past three rehearsals on July 30, August 2 and August 5.
