U.S. President George W. Bush and Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda have announced at a joint news conference that they will attend the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony.

Bush said, "The Chinese people are watching very carefully about the decisions by world leaders and that this.., I happen to believe that not going to the opening games would be, the opening ceremony for the games would be in affront to the Chinese people, which may make it more difficult to have a..., to be able to speak frankly with the Chinese leadership."

Yasuo Fukuda said, "Here for the first time, I will announce officially that I will attend the opening ceremony."
