Special Report: Strong quake jolts SW ChinaYao Ming raised almost 150,000 US dollars this week at a Houston, Texas benefit to help earthquake victims in his native China. The injured star hasn't played since February, but he has been very active in various relief efforts.
The Houston Rockets star held a fund raiser Thursday night for the Yao Ming Foundation at a home in West Houston. More than 100 people attended the event, including teammate Dikembe Mutombo. The event raised about 150,000 dollars including 88,000 donated by a single person.
The Yao Ming foundation will rebuild schools destroyed by last month's deadly earthquake in central China. Yao is expected to return to China next week to join the Chinese national team.
