Special Report:   2008 European Championships

English referee Howard Webb admitted he made a mistake in last Thursday's UEFA Euro 2008 Group B clash between Austria and Poland.Ironically, it was not the decision to award a controversial late penalty against the Poles.

On Sunday's news conference, Webb said his only mistake was not disallowing Poland's first-half opening goal due to an offside penalty.

Howard Webb said "Obviously, we're here to do a job. We do the job, always honestly, and to the best of our ability. We do what we need to do and, clearly, you don't want to be unpopular, but you want to be respected for doing the correct job and we feel we have done a correct job in that particular game (Austria versus Poland), there was one mistake, the goal that was scored by Poland was offside and, other than that, we think we did a correct job."
