VIENNA, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Seven German fans were arrested in Euro 2008 host city Klagenfurt following minor scuffles on Saturday night.

Germany will clash with Poland in a much anticipated Group B game on Sunday and the Austrian police are well aware of possible trouble especially after fierce tongue wars between media of the two countries.

The fans of opposite groups, drinking in the town center, had first traded verbal insults, local police said in a statement.

"After the mood between the groups of fans each numbering around 100 became sufficiently aggressive police stepped in to calm things and prevent any escalation," police said.

A spokesman in Klagenfurt said fans had hurled plastic beer containers before they were separated for a time.

60,000 fans are expected to arrive the city on Sunday, around half of whom will go to the stadium.
